Together, we can stop the spread of COVID-19 and help ourselves and those around us!

by March 17, 2020

The numbers of COVID-19 cases are rising,

But so will we!

What is a virus?

A virus in general terms, is an entity that is found in the blurred intersection between living and non-living. Viruses cannot replicate themselves when they are not in a host. But, when they enter a host body, they are able to significantly weaken them, and even take over their body functions.

What should we be focusing on ?

Keeping in mind that a virus’s strength comes from its ability to find a host, that is where we have to stop the virus. Outside of a host body, a virus is relatively fragile and defeatable, and so, the best step to take it is to barricade the virus from entering into our cells.

How do we prevent the Coronavirus/COVID-19?

Here are 10 all-natural ways and tips to save and keep for virus protection and prevention…

  1. Washing your hands with soap and water
Washing your hands properly is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs. Make sure to rub your hands well, for a minimum of 20 seconds.
  2. Don’t touch your face!
Another very important part of virus prevention is not touching your face. Especially your muscle membranes; nose, eyes, and mouth. These are the key openings through which the virus will successfully invade your body. This is one of the hardest but most important things to do.
  3. Cover your sneezes/coughs, don’t spit in public
COVID-19 especially travels in water droplets, present in the air when a person sneezes or coughs, obviously present in spit. Whether you are/are not diagnosed positive for COVID-19, this is a rule that is a must.
  4. Avoid going to crowded places
This virus is known for how easily it spreads; one person can spread it to up to 14 people around them at a time! This is worse in crowded places especially, since some people are probably unaware as symptoms can take up to 14 days. Meanwhile, these people, in crowds, will be infecting many at a time. So in general, avoiding crowds is very advisable.
  5. Incorporate hot water into your life
As talked about before, the virus is relatively fragile outside of a host. This is evident for the Coronavirus as well, in the fact that hot water can kill it off! Soak your clothes in hot water, gargle your throat daily in the morning with hot water, and keeping drinking hot water. Hot water is not only good for your body, but amazing at virus prevention!
  6. Use natural home remedies
The simplest, most effective, home remedy for virus prevention is hot water with honey, lemon, ginger, and a pinch of turmeric. All of these ingredients are known for their anti-microbial effects, and tasty as well! The next 3 tips are the most important in blocking the virus’s path in to your body so make sure to take note of them!
  7. Boost and protect your immune system
The virus really is dangerous only to those people with a second illness or weak/compromised immune system. This makes it vital to strengthen our immune system, our body’s only way of defense. Why It’s Important to Try Natural Alternatives for Your Health Issues

by September 4, 2019

Depending on the type of ailments or health issues you are dealing with, there are many natural remedies that you can try. Most doctors will recommend prescription medication to help alleviate what you’re experiencing. There are also natural remedies that can safely and effectively be used either as alternatives or at least supplements. There are actually many benefits associated with these natural alternatives:

It’s Cheaper

Prescription medications can cost hundreds of dollars depending on the type of health insurance coverage you have. Holistic and natural alternatives can be far cheaper. For example, you can use the aloe plant to heal your skin from a burn, bug bite, etc. The cost of an aloe plant from which you can simply break a piece off here and there is a lot more affordable than purchasing a prescription cream from the pharmacy that could cost a couple of hundreds of dollars. CBD oil from the hemp plant is gaining a lot of popularity these days. It has the potential to replace hundreds of different prescription medications that are used for a variety of conditions. People are even using CBD as a way to deal with the side effects of things like chemotherapy.

It’s Safer

Natural remedies are safer options in many ways than powerful medicine. Most holistic remedies won’t present a risk for overdose. They don’t necessarily have side effects that you should worry about. You will likely acquire your remedy on your own from a health food store. Unfortunately, medical errors do happen, and when they do, they can be seriously bad news. Going the natural route can prevent many of these errors from occurring.

It’s Cleaner

Many prescription medications and products contain all kinds of chemicals and dangerous ingredients that many people don’t want to put into their bodies. They can even negatively affect other parts of your body if you aren’t careful. This is a major reason why many people live holistically in the first place.

If you have a health issue that you’re dealing with, it’s worth looking into natural alternatives for treatment. There is a place for western medicine, but natural remedies can also be powerful in their own right and a great opportunity to heal your body and feel your best each day. It’s a good idea to check with your doctor before starting any kind of treatment on your own.

3 Natural Ways to Alleviate Cold Symptoms

by August 17, 2019

Cold symptoms can be severe enough to keep you in bed all day. Common symptoms you may experience are congestion, headaches, a sore throat, coughing, a runny nose, and a fever. Three natural ways you can find relief from cold symptoms are essential oils, saunas, and herbal tea.

Essential Oils

According to the American Sinus Institute, essential oils can help relieve congestion and soothe you to sleep if your cold is keeping you awake. Lavender, bergamot, chamomile, and sandalwood essential oils assist in relaxing your body to fall asleep easier. Peppermint oil is good for congestion because it has menthol, an ingredient used in topical rubs and cough drops. Some people have found that rubbing peppermint oil on their temples helps relieve headaches. Eucalyptus oil can also fight off viruses and bacteria.

Sauna

Some research suggests that saunas can help alleviate cold symptoms. How does raising body temperature ease a cold? Some researchers think it’s because the sauna’s extremely high temperature weakens viruses and bacteria that cause colds and flu. Others think it’s because the sauna improves drainage. Be aware of how to use saunas safely before trying one. According to Great Bay Spa & Sauna, fighting a cold and using a sauna both require extra hydration, so it’s critical to monitor your water intake when using it to combat symptoms. Drink a lot of water when you use a sauna, especially if you have a cold. Those who have heart or circulatory problems should avoid saunas because they can be dangerous.

Herbal Tea

Drinking hot herbal tea can soothe a sore throat and congestion. Many people find it comforting to drink a warm cup of herbal tea too. What types of herbal tea should you drink to relieve cold symptoms? The Herbal Allergy Relief Tea can boost your immune system’s activity to kill viruses and bacteria, according to American Ayurveda. It’s also rich in antioxidants. Green tea, another herbal tea high in antioxidants, can alleviate cold symptoms too. Some people claim that green tea boosts your energy, so if you’re suffering from fatigue, green tea may be the right choice. Lemon tea is another good choice in herbal teas for relieving cold symptoms because it has vitamin C, which helps your body fight off the cold. According to anecdotal accounts, lemon tea soothes a sore throat too.

These three natural ways to alleviate cold symptoms are good to use when you’re still feeling under the weather after taking medicine and even if you haven’t taken medicine. Some people report that one or more of these natural remedies alleviated their cold symptoms well enough that they didn’t need over-the-counter medicine.

What Do America’s Mental Health Crisis and Opioid Epidemic Have in Common?

by April 1, 2019

Around the country, the news is dire. Two of the fastest growing causes of death in young adults are opioid overdose and suicide. The link between these two is more than coincidence. It represents a growing sense of hopelessness and internal imbalance that is affecting American youth.

Depression and Suicide

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the suicide rate in the United States rose by 33% between 1999 and 2017, becoming the second leading cause of death among people under 35. Coaching Positive Performance suggest that our culture has failed to equip young people to deal with the modern world. When they struggle, they expect someone older to step in and help. Rather than learning to cope with negative feelings, they are instead encouraged to modify those feelings with medication. They aren’t treating the core problems they experience, which is a fundamental imbalance. Young people who consistently struggle with these issues may give up and take their own lives.

The Opioid Epidemic

The opioid crisis is a reflection of the same struggle. People are legally prescribed opioids to handle pain after an injury or medical procedure, and they discover that the medicine helps them escape negative feelings. The Recovery Village explains that, frequently beginning with abuse of prescription pain medication, an opioid addiction can spiral out of control until a person needs heroin or fentanyl on a daily basis just to experience the relief of agonizing and dangerous withdrawal symptoms. As the addict moves from prescription medicine to illicit substances like fentanyl, he or she is at increased risk of an overdose.

A Crisis of Meaning

Another trend that affects young people is a loss of purpose and meaning. They read the news and hear troubling stories of global warming and environmental uncertainty. They are told that financially, there is good chance that they will be worse off than their parents. They have grown in a society where religious, social and political institutions are justifiably treated with suspicion. Meanwhile, they read posts on social media that make it seem like everyone else is doing fine and living their best lives. Often, they feel alone, confused and left out. They are disconnected from the things that are supposed to give them meaning and purpose. Not only that, they are disconnected from themselves. It’s impossible to heal oneself if they don’t listen, or can’t hear themselves.

How to Fix It

Fixing this situation is no simple task. Elemental Life discusses how one place to start is by teaching the power and purpose of community. Gathering together to share a meal and conversation can be a powerful experience. Serving alongside other people; doing work such as feeding the hungry, can be a reminder that you are not alone. Telling the truth about how you feel to trusted friends can open up space for healing, reconciliation and renewed hope.

There needs to be increased learning on how to communicate with ourselves. For thousands of years people have known the power and importance of balancing our own bodies. Nowadays people are too focused on other things and neglect their own bodies. With Ayurveda teachings we are able to listen to our body and balance our mind, body, and souls.

Young people also need to be equipped with the knowledge that negative emotions are not unusual. It is normal to be sad, depressed or angry sometimes. It is by accepting such feelings that you can learn to cope with them and work through them. Once we understand that every part of our bodies and every emotion we have is important and essential, instead of trying to suppress these feelings, we can feel them openly. We are then able to learn how to handle our bodies in the best ways.

Hopefully, suicide and overdose rates will decline as society becomes more comfortable admitting that it has a problem. Work needs to be done in limiting the number of opioid prescriptions that are written. Work needs to be done in supporting young people in this difficult time. Everyone needs to learn how to listen and take care of their mind, bodies, and spirits. By giving support in the present, society can offer hope for the future.

3 Things to Look Out for When Buying Health and Wellness Products

by April 1, 2019

Health and wellness products take many forms. Often, these products fall under the catch-all term of “supplements.” Scores of capsules, powders, shakes, oils, and more vie for customers’ attention. Rushing in and making a purchase could prove ill-advised. Instead, step back and ponder the following three tips before shelling out any money on health and wellness products.

Environmental Friendliness

Corporate responsibility is a big thing these days. Top companies try to soften their images by giving back to causes associated with the environment. Health and wellness companies shouldn’t be dragged into becoming environmentally conscious.

Giva suggests to look closely at which products are good for the environment. Food supplements packaged in biodegradable containers stand out as examples of pro-environment items. There are other ways to tell if a company and its products are green. Does the packaging note a percentage of the company’s profits go towards an environmental cause? Take that as another positive sign.

Ingredient Quality

As a rule, you should always check ingredients. Ingredients often tell the tale about whether the consumer procures a decent quality product. Anything loaded with refined sugars, fillers, and harmful stimulants won’t likely be a quality product. A breakfast substitute with flax and yams, however, would be of the decent variety.

Each product is different. Keep specific points about particular ingredients in mind when choosing something. doTERRA recommends, when it comes to an essential oil, the plant it is derived from, if grown in two different locations, will not yield the same levels of beneficial compounds.

Consumers do need to perform their research when thinking about ingredient quality. If you aren’t sure what is worth buying and what is best avoided, read up on the subject. This way, you’ll know what to be on the lookout for when skimming a long ingredient list on the side of the package.

Beware of Endorsements

There are fitness and entertainment celebrities who don’t lend their endorsement to any product easily. While it may seem cynical to say most public figures making endorsements do so solely for money, the sentiment is often true. The “big name” promoting a particular product may never even previously used it before. Not all celebrity endorsements are real. ApexDrop explains that in our modern age of “influencers” there are many times where fake influencers and inauthentic endorsements will happen, and many people can’t tell the difference. Look at other merits to a product before relying solely on a celebrity endorsement.

You do want to get the most out of a health and wellness product. Being a careful consumer allows you to help yourself with this goal. Since you want to live a healthier life, the goal is one worth attaining.

5 Mistakes That Undermine Health and Wellness

by February 19, 2019

Taking control of your physical and mental health is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. In addition to adding in positive daily habits, it is also important to avoid bad habits. Here are five of the most common mistakes that can undermine your health and wellness goals:

Too Much Self-Criticism

Feeling good about yourself is one of the keys to a positive outlook on life. You should always be your biggest fan. Doing so will ensure that your mental and emotional well-being do not suffer. It is important to avoid being overly critical of yourself so that you do not fall into the trap of self-depreciation. Treat yourself like you would treat a loved one or friend, and you will reap the benefits of increased self-confidence.

Insufficient or Ineffective Exercise

One of the best things that you can do for yourself is to commit to a regular exercise routine, yet most Americans still do not get a sufficient amount of physical activity on a daily basis. You do not have to hit the gym for hours a day to reap the benefits. Even a daily brisk walk can help to alleviate stress, improve your mental well-being, and improve your overall physical fitness levels.

Overeating and Undereating

One of the biggest roadblocks to any health and wellness routine is your diet. In order to achieve maximum health results, it is important to put an emphasis on proper nutrition. Too much of a good thing can become a bad thing. Thus, it is crucial to take care not to overeat or undereat. Learning what your ideal caloric intake should be and adhering to that number will help you to make sure that you are giving your body what it needs without going overboard.

Addiction, Compulsive Behavior and Bad Habits

Addictive and compulsive behavior can be the downfall of any healthy living plan. The increasing number of people becoming addicted to alcohol, opioids and other drugs is alarming. Not only are most addictive substances bad for your body in any amount, but addiction is also likely to lead to other bad habits, such as not exercising or eating properly. Addiction will also undermine your sense of self-worth, and it frequently leads to anxiety and depression. If you need help with addictive or compulsive behaviors, reach out to a counselor, a drug rehab or an alcohol rehab facility to get the help that you need.

Poor Stress Management

Too much stress and the poor management of it can throw off both your physical and mental health. Your body releases the hormone cortisol in response to stressful situations. It is important to moderate cortisol levels in order to maintain your health and well-being. Some of the best ways to manage stress include getting adequate sleep, receiving massages and engaging in meditative activities. Seeking help from a practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine can also provide a natural way to manage stress.
